Review *Ruffles & the Red, Red Coat*

by David Melling

Published by Nosy Crow

A bookshop window can always make people stop & look but when author & illustrator David Melling himself visits & this gorgeous character appears, painted on the window, I had to go & see for myself & take a few photos!

Ruffles arrived just before the lockdown rules update allowed people to actually go back into shops to browse. This week Ruffles has been the perfect face to welcome everyone back & create lots of smiles.

This is a story about Ruffles, a cheeky dog who loves to do all the fun things like fetching toys, running, digging, eating, making friends, playing outside & sleeping!

He's not so happy about his new red coat. He knows it's cold & wet outside but he still REALLY doesn't want to wear his coat.

No, no, no!

Ruffles is such an adorable character & we meet his friend Ruby. They both LOVE puddles SO much!

They enjoy playing together but running & splashing so much in puddles made Ruffles feel cold.

This story explores friendship, fun, disappointment, emotions & thoughtfulness.

Scale, style & placement all make the illustrations so much fun. Using a limited but interesting colour palette in creative ways David Melling has given us a gem of a story book.
