Who can resist this cover?? š¾
Everyone of any age should read a book like this. There's even a note from Michael himself, just before chapter 1, that tells us that! It would be a treat & good for your health!
Life was usually calm & very civilised with furry pals over at the Pork Chop CafƩ. They have the BEST food ever - particularly their famous crispy pork chops.
Dogs travel in from miles away, especially for them!
There's definitely some drama ahead for Michael & friends but it's not the drama he was planning.
Michael has discovered his new skill: mind reading & is very excited about the idea of being famous!
He's even more excited to be flying off to Hollywoof! There's a cockapoo flight attendant called Julie. Michael thinks he reads her mind as soon as he boards the aircraft but is he mistaken?
Hmm, things might get tricky but he quietly goes to his dog basket in economy, ready to fly. Could a misplaced squeaky toy delay the flight? That would be unacceptable!
There's a famous passenger in First Class, but who is it? Michael is SO curious. He was convinced that HE was the famous passenger!
This flight is going to be interesting. Terrie Chilvers' whole story has a lot of fun twists & turns. Things don't quite go Michael's way all the time but the results will bring a smile to anyone reading.
The illustration style isn't too simple, abstract or too busy but Tim Budgen has somehow managed to show us a lot of expression & captured all the breeds so well.
I've already had messages from the reading miniClub (for junior chemo patients) co-ordinator telling me their favourite part(s) of the book & favourite dogs. This is going to be a popular read at the club & at home!
It's a great format for children transitioning to longer books. With chapters & more words than some books, the illustrations break up the text & create a great balance.
I believe it's also a very encouraging style for young readers.
It's such an important task & special process to find the ideal partnership when pairing an illustrator with an author & their story.
You can have a 100% brilliant story when it's read with text alone but that story can be brought to life on a whole new level with a great illustrator choice. Tim Budgen's illustrations are just the right fit for the characters & he somehow makes each dog's individuality really come out to play.
Michael definitely recommends the steak & kidney ice cream - maybe just for dogs!
You might prefer the roast chicken š flavour!š¦
Follow your dreams!
