Who can resist penguins? Or an 86 year-old feisty, matter-of-fact grandmother, determined to visit Adélie penguins? This is an unexpected adventure to make everyone smile!
Add in eccentricities like that grandmother taking along her two favourite handbags* & her own Darjeeling tea supply to the antarctic, plus sending emails to a newly discovered grandson (via a young, enthusiastic researcher & blogger) & there's a great mix to instantly grab your attention.
Everyone is set in their ways to some degree but life itself sometimes jolts us out of the fog. It can be the most unlikely thing or event that becomes the launch of a new chapter in our personal journey - literally & otherwise.
This isn't just about Penguins, trust me!
Patrick - Veronica's grandson - might be one of the least likely people to end up visiting or working at any remote Antarctic research project but rediscovering some of their shared, unusual family history changed things more than a bit.
A refreshing but maybe unlikely story, we can feel transported away from our own real worlds & just enjoy the Adélie penguin colony as a backdrop to a small cast of quirky characters who find themselves together but isolated.
A light, uplifting, enjoyable read with a generous sprinkling of adventure, relationships, imagination & penguins!
*Spoiler alert: both handbags might not make it home!
