Review *Snug as a Bug?*

Updated: Jul 25, 2023

by Karl Newson Illustrated by Alex Willmore

Published by Happy Yak an Imprint of Quarto Kids

Sometimes a cover just tells you that YOU need to read a book.

Then you see the words are by the genius storyteller, Karl Newson & the 'must-read' factor reaches 💯% instantly! THIS is that book!

Alex Willmore has put colourful, creative clothing on Karl Newson's gorgeous, imaginative words & brought them to life beautifully. It's a perfect pairing.

BUG lives in a tree (we might expect that part) & has a door.

There's also a doorbell.

These are examples of SO many fantastic details that are very generously sprinkled throughout the story.

He's trying to sleep, SNUG in his bed. WHO can be calling at Bug's door?

There are some sneaky, hungry animals & tricky situations as we make our way through this exciting adventure.

Bug has to find a way to escape from everything trying to catch him. He's small but mighty!

Bug is wearing slippers, yellow fluffy ones! This is one of the favourite details at the reading MiniClub (for junior chemo patients) & they've had discussions about how Bug can run so well in slippers!

Will they stay on for the whole, crazy-fun time?

Remember, in a picture book, anything is possible! This one is definitely magical & a new favourite.

I'd 💯% recommend this book for travel time, bedtime, home, clubs, schools, libraries & EVERYONE!

Happy Yak is Quarto’s new fun and funny imprint, launched in 2021.

Books to make children smile, giggle and laugh out loud!

They publish imaginative preschool novelty and board books, playful picture books and uproarious fact-packed non-fiction titles.

Happy Yak books have an upbeat sense of fun. Look out for their eye-catching design, contemporary illustration style and colours that pop.

*Secret message*: Bug has a name but you'll have to read the book to discover what it is! We had a guessing game about it!
