The reading MiniClub (for junior chæmotherapy patients) had a vote for a new book to use in their special 'Welcome to the Club' gift bags for new members who come to visit before their own treatment.
This gorgeous book got a lot of votes - almost more than we've had in 2 years since lockdown first started - but it actually tied overall with 'Shoo!' by the talented Susie Bower & Francesca Gambatesa.
The cover just invites you in - who can resist the idea of Vikings & icing together? Just look at that cake!
Not everyone is great at sport & that's ok. You can be You.
This story is so much fun & shows us a whole new version of sports day. The games are unusual & surprising. Look out for the bow & arrow contest!
The first time I read this to a small group (via Zoom) the children were so excited & had only seen a photo of the cover. It's clearly a picture book, typically not lengthy but our Zoom was about 1 hour & 15 minutes, even though there was only one full read-through!
Some of the club members are very keen to look at pictures VERY carefully & love to discover minute details. They've also created MiniQuiz questions for this & several other books - initiated by the elected MiniClub Junior Assistant Co-ordinator, who recently turned 9!
With quirky names, the main characters Leaf & Nut show how different people, even siblings, can be & make us smile along the way. Some lines in the story made everyone laugh & some illustrations were instant topics of conversation or recreated in our 'fun craft' books.
Once again Lu Fraser's words & story ideas have hit the jackpot & given the world another fantastic adventure into fun reading. The words are brought to life even more by the visually gorgeous illustrations from the talented Mark McKinley.
You'll love this excellent, fun-filled story. It's a gorgeous addition to any home library or bookshelf.
